5 Teething Signs Every Parent Must Know

The period when teething signs begin to show, are a significant part in the lives of both the parent and the child. However, it can also be quite frustrating to both, because although your baby begins teething, you may not recognize this and therefore can’t understand the reason behind some of your baby’s actions.

teething signsTeething signs appear at different stages in a baby’s life, so determining the right time to use teethers and other toys to encourage healthy tooth and gum growth may be quite confusing.

Parents must be aware that it is perfectly normal for babies to undergo many different reactions that are also many times, not consistent, to various stimulants as they grow up.

Some babies will change reactions when their milk has changed, when fever comes on, or when they are hungry. Being aware is the first most important step for parents to help make children teething as comfortable and painless as possible.

Sometimes, there are parents who fail to understand what their babies need. To help make things easier, here are 5 teething signs that every parent should know:

1. Anytime between 4 to 7 months, you can already begin checking your child’s gums for teething signs. As with any parental activity, this should be done with a lot of patience and care. The bottom two front teeth are usually the first to appear, so you can begin regular inspection in this area, and once you see small teeth pushing out, you can be sure that teething signs have begun. After these teeth begin to show, usually the upper two follow, as well as other teeth.

2. Some babies go through their teething signs with hardly any discomfort, while others will show more irritability and discomfort than usual. If this has been persisting for a period of time and you can’t seem to find a reason why, try inspecting their gums for teething signs.

3. The teething phase may also cause a baby to drool more; hence they will be developing moisture or saliva around their mouth more often. If you notice these signs, you may want to try providing them with a soft and gentle teether that is designed for babies going through the initial signs of teething and therefore must be very soft and gentle.

4. You may also notice that your baby will begin to crave biting or chewing on things more often, more likely than not caused by teething signs. If you notice this behavior, inspect their gums for any teeth that you see, and you will have to provide your baby with the right teething toys to avoid any harm caused by chewing on foreign objects. It’s also important to change toys as their teeth become bigger and therefore demand teething toys that are slightly harder.

5. Inspect your baby’s mouth for redness and swelling of gums, which is also common in teething signs. The red gums may also cause irritation and discomfort, and will appear harder than normal.
