As a new mother you have gone through an exciting birth that will have left you breathless and overjoyed.

As a new mother you will be emotionally and physically exhausted.

You will be overwhelmed by your new responsibilities towards your new kid.

The first days at home are a time to take a deep breathes, sit back and relax, and take some time just for you.

What you need to do after having a new kid?

  • During the first days at home, limit the amount of visitors that you invite into your home.
  • Take some time to recover and settle into the routine. Schedule a routine for sleeping and feeding your new kid.
  • As a new mother you should pay particular attention to the way that you are feeling so that those baby blues don’t attack your new kid and surprise you unexpectedly.
  • If you have other children at home you may be dealing with feelings of jealousy as the new kid takes center stage. Prepare them in advance to expect some major changes when the new kid arrives.
  • Include your other children in the day-to-day activities that are part of the new kid’s routine.

As a new mother it is normal for you to feel a bit out of nature and sad for the first couple of weeks after giving birth. After giving birth to your new kid, your body will undergo through some major physical changes.

There is a great hormonal change takes place in your body and you will be feeling a lack of sleep.

Within a couple of weeks you will feel better. If you find that you are feeling more and more depressed, you should consult your doctor so that he/she can determine if you are suffering from a condition called postpartum depression.

Symptoms of postpartum depression:

  • Having little or no energy
  • Weight gain accompanied by overeating
  • Weight loss accompanied by not eating
  • Oversleeping
  • Feeling of sadness and depression
  • Showing no interest in your baby or being overly concerned and worried about your baby
  • Feeling trouble with soreness
  • Insomnia
  • Feeling guilty and worthlessness

If you have other people on hand, ask them to help in some activities like diaper changing, feeding, and just sitting and holding the new kid.
