Newborn Insulated In A Plastic Sandwich Bag

In an amazing story from a 14 week premature baby being born and surviving at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital and that too with the help of a plastic sandwich bag!

premature babyLexi Lacey was born 14 weeks early weighing just 14 ounces (396 grams) after her mother was rushed to hospital with extreme stomach pains fearing that she was having a miscarriage. The doctors gave the tiny infant only a 10% chance of survival when she arrived into the world.

At the time, the only thing that the doctors had in the hospital to keep the baby warm was a plastic sandwich bag obtained from the hospital canteen. According to the mother, Chelsea Rowberry, 17, it was “incredible to think that saved her life.”

The reason for this was that the hospital was equipped to deal with babies who were only 12 weeks premature or less. At the time it wasn’t possible to transfer the tiny infant to the other hospital equipped with the specialist unit.

The little baby Lexi Lacey is now 11 weeks old, at 5 pounds and 6 ounces and is doing well after spending 11 weeks in recovery!
